WTA Toronto Results from Friday: Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka Advance

Williams will now face Victoria Azarenka, as the fourth seeded player ended Galina Voskoboeva's run in Toronto. Voskoboeva had pulled off a series of main draw upsets after entering WTA Toronto by virtue of qualifiers.
Azarenka versus Williams promises to be a competitive semifinal match from Toronto. When they last met, in the quarters of the 2010 Australian Open, fans were treated to a three set match that saw Williams overcome a tremendous deficit.
Azarenka is playing strong tennis at this point in her career as she made her first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon not long ago. Of the three players remaining in the Toronto draw besides Williams, Azarenka looks like the player who has the best chance of ending the American's attempt to take down the prestigious title in Toronto.
The other semifinal will feature Sam Stosur against Agnieszka Radwanska, neither of which have ever won a Premier Mandatory event on the WTA Tour. One of them will have the opportunity to do just that this weekend. Although the winner of Stosur and Radwanska will almost surely be considered the underdog against the winner of Williams and Azarenka.
Stosur defeated Italy's Roberta Vinci on Friday while Radwanska defeated 11th seeded Andrea Petkovic.
At this point WTA Toronto appears to be on Williams' racket although Azarenka's best might be able to best Williams if the American is not on top of her game on Saturday.
