Wimbledon Odds 2012: Tough Draw Eliminates Andy Murray as Potential Favorite

He's considered a favorite, according to Bovada, but that may not last.

He's been to Wimbledon's semis three straight years, but he's lost all three times. He has also managed to lose the final match in three different Grand Slams during his career.
His failure to seal the deal is well-documented.
Murray's first-round match is against Nikolay Davydenko. He's a former top-five player who could give Murray trouble. They've faced off nine times throughout their careers, and Murray has won five of those contests. I wouldn't call those "gimme" odds.
If Murray does defeat Davydenko, he will still face plenty of other worthy challengers. He's on Rafael Nadal's portion of the draw, and other solid players lie in the way as well.
Murray faces potential draws with David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro and Milos Raonic. None of those players will be easy wins, and Murray could easily go home earlier than expected.
There are two types of tennis players.
Certain players save their best for the biggest stage and win Grand Slams. Others, like Murray, win a ton of matches, maintain a high world ranking and fail to live up to those expectations when it matters the most.
Don't expect that to change in this year's Wimbledon tournament. A different draw would have given him a chance, but Murray stands no chance with the way the bracket panned out.
