Reigning men's champion Djokovic had something of a tricky draw handed to him in the shape of German contender Philipp Kohlschreiber, but the Serbian triumphed 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to get his defence underway in the desired fashion.
Not according to former British No. 1 Tim Henman, however, who was quoted by tennis expert Chris Goldsmith as implying Djokovic was anything but sensational upon making his tournament bow:
A straight-sets win would be seen as more than acceptable to most, and despite making 20 unforced errors, the world No. 1 could be left content with Monday's performance on Centre Court.
Speaking after his opening win, Djokovic seemed happy enough with the victory over Kohlschreiber, per Piers Newbery of BBC Sport:
He can be very tricky on all the surfaces, especially grass, and had nothing to lose but I managed to stay composed. I made the crucial breaks at 5-4 in all three sets, so hopefully it can stay that way for me.
