Federer had 20 aces and won 84 percent of his first-service points. He'll face No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final for the second year in a row. Djokovic halted No. 21 Richard Gasquet 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-4. Unlike Federer, Gasquet struggled with his service game.
He was broken three times and had six double-faults. Gasquet was only able to keep 54 percent of his first serves in play. It's hard to beat anyone with those numbers, let alone the No. 1 player in the world.
The Federer-Djokovic meeting will mark the fourth time the two men have played each other in 2015. Djokovic owns a 2-1 edge this year, but Federer still has the advantage 20-19 in their careers. If fans are lucky, Sunday's final will be half as good as the 2014 final when Djokovic beat Federer in five sets 6-7(7) 6-4 7-6(4) 5-7 6-4.
On the women's side, No. 1 Serena Williams will take on No. 20 Garbine Muguruza on Saturday. Williams continued her domination over No. 4 Maria Sharapova with a 6-2, 6-4 win. It was the 17th time in a row Williams has beaten Sharapova.
Muguruza knocked off No. 13 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to her first Grand Slam final. In the 2014 French Open, Muguruza scored what was the biggest win of her career over Williams.
Because of that victory, she has confidence she can pull the upset over the top seed. Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com), Muguruza seems to believe she has Williams right where she wants her.
