On the women's side, No. 1 seed Serena Williams rebounded from a poor first set to dismantle No. 23 Victoria Azarenka 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Williams' serve in the final two sets was simply nasty. She finished with 17 aces and just 12 unforced errors in the match.
She also had 46 winners. When Williams is plus-34 in the winners/unforced errors category, she's almost impossible to beat. After the match, Azarenka congratulated Williams on her performance via Twitter:
Williams is on pace to capture her fourth straight Grand Slam title, and could potentially capture the season sweep of the sport's top four tournaments. If she's able to complete that feat in the year of her 34th birthday, it'll be just another detail to support the notion that she's the best of all time.
Williams will face Maria Sharapova in the semifinals. Sharapova also needed three sets to shut down American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2. The marathon match took just under three hours to complete.
