Wimbledon 2012: 10 Men’s First-Round Matches to Watch

Below, in no particular order, are 10 matches worth keeping an eye on during the Championship's first few days.
1. Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Juan Carlos Ferrero
The defending champion remains the top player most worth tracking during the opening rounds, especially given his early-round heroics at Roland Garros. It will be interesting to see how Novak reacts to having his name on the trophy and a target on his back at the All-England Club.
Ferrero is far from an easy out either. The former French Open champion current sits at No. 38 in the world and has performed well at Wimbledon in the past. He lacks the firepower to compete with Djokovic's best, but his consistency and intelligence will become an asset if the World No. 1 is off his game.
Prediction: Djokovic in four.
2. Tomas Berdych (6) vs. Ernests Gulbis
Berdych has solidified himself as a top-10 player by improving the consistency of his Grand Slam performances, but the 2010 runner-up remains prone to early-round dogfights. If he can get past the enigmatic Gulbis, the road to a quarterfinal matchup with Djokovic is somewhat clear.
The 23 year-old Gulbis remains extremely talented, but the results have not been there of late. A big-ticket matchup in the first round may inspire a return to his early 2011 form, but he also may have no answer if Berdych gets off to a fast start.
Prediction: Berdych in three
