Vinci vs. Pennetta US Open 2015 Women’s Final: Live Score and Highlights

Vinci's semifinal win over top seed Serena Williams will be remembered as the most dramatic moment of the tournament, but 26th seed Pennetta scored a semifinal upset of her own on Friday when she needed less than an hour to beat No. 2 Simona Halep in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Both players showed nerves in the early going, exchanging breaks before Pennetta gained the edge in the first set tiebreak. From there, she took control, breaking Vinci twice on her way to a convincing 6-2 second-set win.
At age 33, Pennetta is the oldest first-time Grand Slam winner in tennis history. She's just the second woman ranked outside the top 10 to win the U.S. Open since the ranking system began in 1975 and also the second Italian to win a Grand Slam—following in the footsteps of Francesca Schiavone at the 2010 French Open.
In her post-match interview, a beaming Pennetta announced her retirement, choosing to step away from tennis at the pinnacle of her career.
