Venus Williams Earns 700th Career Win with Victory vs. Julia Goerges

The WTA's official Twitter account noted Williams became the ninth player in the 700 club. Also from the WTA, Williams became the second player in 2015 to reach the 700-win milestone. Her sister Serena Williams hit the mark in April at the Miami Open.

Following her victory, Williams admitted to WTATennis.com that she was happy to not know the milestone was approaching: "I'm glad nobody told me before - I would have been a little bit nervous. It was a good match, a quality player. I had never played her before, so that was also an experience in itself. I was thinking, 'How long would it take me to get to 800 now?' Maybe that was my first thought!"
While not the dominant force she once was, Williams has had a late-career renaissance. The 35-year-old has won one singles title each of the past two years, owns a solid 28-11 record in singles matches this season and advanced to the quarterfinals in two of the four major tournaments for the first time since 2010.
It's been at least seven years, when she last won Wimbledon, since the best version of Williams has been seen. Considering the health problems, including Sjogren's syndrome, the fact she's still ranked and able to make solid runs in big tournaments shows how gifted the future Hall of Famer is.
If Williams is able to hit a milestone or two along the way, as she did Tuesday, that will just add more chapters to the incredible story she's already written for herself on and off of the tennis court.
