USTA Chooses Austin to Host Quarterfinal Davis Cup Tie Versus Spain

"I think it's been no secret that I have wanted it for a long time. It would be a dream come true to play at home." U.S. Davis Cup stalwart and Austin native, Andy Roddick told USA Today, prior to the final decision. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/tennis/2011-03-23-davis-cup-usa-spain_N.htm)
Roddick helped break the news himself, on The Bobby Bones Show, Wednesday, before competing in the Sony Ericsson Open, in Miami. The Bobby Bones Show is a radio show in Austin and Bones is a good friend of Roddick.
It's not just the tennis and media industries who are excited about Austin hosting the first home Davis Cup tie in over two years. The fans are anticipating a great showdown against Spain, who won the Davis Cup in 2008 and 2009.
"I love to be able to travel to different places for these, but nothing compares to having an event like this in your hometown." Austin-resident, Deanna Reeves told me.
"I guess it just gives me a little sense of pride knowing that my hometown gets to host something like this." Reeves said.
Reeves started playing tennis at five- years-old and attended the 2007 Davis Cup World Group Finals, in Portland, Oregon. She said that attending that tie was a dream come true, but nothing will compare to hosting a tie in her hometown. She hopes that it will bode well for the future of Austin within the sports industry.
"After Austin being able to host Davis Cup, other sports and hopefully tennis will see Austin as a good place to host other sporting events." Reeves said.
