The second-seeded Federer will engage in his fourth-round match against 13th-seeded John Isner tonight in the prime-time matchup at Arthur Ashe Stadium at 9 p.m. ET.
Federer has been on a roll since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. He came back and defeated his rival at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati last month, and Federer's serve has been incredibly sharp.
He won the Cincinnati tournament without losing a game on his serve, and he has lost just one game serving at the U.S. Open. He has won each of his first three matches in straight sets, and none of those sets have been close.
Isner is a hard-serving right-hander who is the 13th-ranked player in the world. He has also been on fire in the U.S. Open, with straight-set victories over Malek Jaziri and Mikhail Youzhny in the first two rounds. He was on his way to a third straight three-set romp, but Jiri Vesely had to retire after losing the first two sets.
Isner has lost to Djokovic and Andy Murray, Federer's two primary rivals, this year. However, he hasn't played Federer since August 2012, when he lost in two sets in the quarterfinal of the London Olympics.
Federer expects the New York crowd to back his American rival.
