Match of the Day: No. 3 Stan Wawrinka vs. Blaz Kavcic
One of the best players on the men’s side of the 2014 U.S. Open is No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka, and he will square off against Blaz Kavcic in the third round of the tournament.
After beating Jiri Vesely in a first-round matchup that was much tougher than most expected, Wawrinka encountered another battle in Round 2 against Thomaz Bellucci that also went to four sets.
The official Twitter of the U.S. Open talked about Wawrinka’s second-round win:
Bellucci had the serve and the length along the baseline to make the matchup tough for the Swiss star, and Wawrinka grew frustrated with his play. It also didn’t help that the boisterous fans in attendance were being very vocal.
Wawrinka was admittedly agitated by a fan during his match on Thursday, and spoke to Howard Fendrich of the Associated Press (via ABCNews.com), saying, “At the end of the day, they start to get a little bit drunk. It was OK. I had to talk to a few of them. At the end, it's normal. ... Everybody was into the match. That's OK. It can happen.”
