US Open Tennis 2014: Day 8 Results, Highlights and Scores Recap from New York

Here is a look at all of the scores from the singles matches on Day 8 of the Grand Slam event.
Men’s Recap
The marquee news of the day on the men’s side was Novak Djokovic’s victory. While the straight-sets win looked easy on paper, there was a point in the second set when Philipp Kohlschreiber had set point to even the match at a set apiece.
However, Djokovic won the point after an extended rally and reacted accordingly, urging the crowd to get involved. Suddenly, the storyline went from Kohlschreiber hanging around and weathering the storm through an incredible first round from Djokovic to a straightforward victory.
Mr. Djokovic will play Andy Murray next after Murray dispatched Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.
It is critical that Murray won in relatively easy fashion because he is going to need all of the energy he can get against the tournament favorite. The last time the two marquee names faced off at Flushing Meadows, Murray won the longest final in U.S. Open history (four hours and 54 minutes).
Incredibly enough, Djokovic had just won an Australian Open semifinal earlier that year against Murray in a match that lasted four hours and 50 minutes.
Murray discussed those previous matches, via Darren Walton of The Sydney Morning Herald: “We play a fairly similar style and I think that's why a lot of the matches have been long games, long rallies, long points because we do a lot of the same things well.”
The matchup will mark Murray’s 14th straight Grand Slam quarterfinals, while Djokovic has been in 22 straight.
