There were certainly a few upsets, but top seeds Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic cruised to easy victories on Day 4. Crowd favorites Victoria Azarenka and John Isner also had no problem in their second-round matchups.

No. 8 Ana Ivanovic Goes Down
Ana Ivanovic was considered one of the few players capable of knocking Serena Williams out of this tournament, but she will not get a chance after her second-round exit at the hands of Karolina Pliskova.
The Czech player lost in the first round of her only other appearance at the U.S. Open, but Pliskova was impressive in the second round this year with her solid receiving play. She prevented Ivanovic from getting any easy points and then came through when needed to earn a straight-set win.
Ivanovic spoke about her struggles after the match, via Lynn Zinser of The New York Times:
It was very tough out there for me today. I really struggled to find my rhythm and made way too many unforced errors. Yeah, it was just really bad day.
It’s very disappointing. It’s never easy, you know, to finish, and especially this early. I was really hoping I can make a good run.
