US Open Tennis 2013 Results: Most Notable Scores to Begin 2nd Week in Queens

Week 2 at the 2013 U.S. Open got off to a bang on Labor Day as two of the most beloved players in the men's game took the stage during prime time.

But while Rafael Nadal battled back from an early hole inside Arthur Ashe Stadium to earn a berth in the quarterfinals, his long-time rival Roger Federer was left stunned, waving goodbye to the crowd packed into Louis Armstrong Stadium following a shocking straight-set loss, per U.S. Open on Twitter:



Singles action will continue throughout the week, concluding with the women's and men's championships on Sunday and Monday, respectively. But for now, tennis fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the opening day of second-week play at Flushing Meadows.

Tommy Robredo Knocks Out Roger Federer in Straight Sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-4



Five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer looked out of sorts from the start of Monday's shocking upset loss to 19th-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain. 

The two players exchanged breaks in the opening set but managed to get to a tiebreak, where Robredo quickly got ahead of the 17-time Grand Slam champion. After nearly an hour had gone by, the Spaniard went up one set to love.

Sloppy play would doom Fed in the second set, where he committed 14 unforced errors, missed six break-point chances and was broken to lose 3-6.

With his back against the wall in the third set, Federer was unable to pull any tricks from his sleeve, missing six more chances to break Robredo and going on to lose the set 4-6, suffering his first straight-set loss at Flushing Meadows in over a decade.
