US Open Tennis 2013 Odds: Favorites Who Will Falter in Flushing Meadows

Some of the biggest names in the sport are heading toward a subpar performance, and all of the following players should be avoided by those looking to make a wager on the event.
Rafael Nadal (Odds: 2-1)
Rafael Nadal won the 2010 U.S. Open and is coming off a huge victory in the ATP Western & Southern Open, but at 2-1 odds and in a stacked field, this is not a risk worth the wager.
Nadal may have won the 2013 French Open, but with a porous finish at Wimbledon (bounced in the first round), there is no doubt that he is not playing the best tennis of his life.
While a win in Cincinnati may be a step in the right direction, Nadal’s issues on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows have resulted in the veteran only making the finals twice in nine attempts.
For a bona fide star like Nadal, that’s not good enough.
Victoria Azarenka (Odds: 7-2)
There are few players on the women’s side playing as well as Victoria Azarenka, but a lackluster history at the U.S. Open and a defending champion in Serena Williams looking for revenge will result in a loss in this Grand Slam tournament.
Azarenka is coming off a huge win at Cincinnati—she beat Williams in the finals of that tournament—but just one finals appearance in seven years on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows is a bad omen.
Add in that Williams is the defending champion and four-time Grand Slam winner at the event, and Azarenka is on such a collision course with the world’s No. 1 player that she will have a hard time winning.
At 7-2 odds, this is a bet fans should stay away from.
