Samantha Stosur (7) defeated Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1
Sorana Cirstea defeated Sabine Lisicki (16) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2

Day's Biggest Upset
Sabine Lisicki, 22, has shown the talent that has led many to come to the conclusion that she will someday win a Grand Slam event. She very well might, but it is not going to be the 2012 U.S. Open.
Lisicki was ousted in the first round by lightly-regarded Sorana Cristea 6-4, 2-6, 2-6. This loss continues a downward trend for Lisicki.
She has lost her last three matches and is just 16-17 on the year.
Defending Champ Cruises
Defending U.S. Open champ Samantha Stosur destroyed her first-round opponent, Petra Martic.
