Seeded players are finally starting to compete against each other to create exciting matches, while the sleepers still alive are starting to see their luck run out.
This second group includes the American men, who saw another player go down as Tim Smyczek was defeated by Roberto Bautista Agut. Only John Isner and Sam Querrey remain for the home nation.

No. 13 Sara Errani def. No. 19 Venus Williams; 6-0, 0-6, 7-6(5)
It is rare to see such a dramatic change from set to set, but this match was anything but ordinary.
Everything seemed to go wrong for Venus Williams in the first set, as she was bageled for the first time in a Grand Slam since 2009.

However, Williams looked like a different person in the second set. She won all five of her points when she went to the net and did not face a single break opportunity en route to her own 6-0 victory.
The third set was much more competitive with both sides playing as well as they had all tournament. Errani came close to defeat, but she came through with a few key points to earn the narrow win in a tiebreak.
"She's playing unbelievable. I really don't know how I won today," Errani said after the match, via Rachel Cohen of The Associated Press.
