Time to Grow Up: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal Ideological Struggle

It has come to my attention over the past year or so that I have been a part of this site, that the environment has gradually undergone a significant shift. A shift not necessarily for the good.
Once a place for knowledgeable and thoughtful people to exchange ideas, B/R has become a hotbed of stupid and partisan bickering. No doubt Nancy Pelosi and Rush Limbaugh would be less hostile to each other than clashing B/R subscribers. For the credibility of the site, this kind of stupid ideological warfare needs to stop.
Roger Federer is a source of much controversy. For the large part, his fans are mild mannered lovers of tennis. They are the kinds of people who are responsible adults, and have a love for the classical roots of tennis. There is nothing at all wrong with this. However, as always, there are a few agitators—a few rabid fans who fall more into the category of "fanatics" than fans. This is a sad trend which will lead to reasonable people abandoning the site.
Roger is a notable athlete of the 21st century. He is an excellent tennis player, who has been able to set a record for most grand slams singles championships held by a male player. He has a very eye pleasing game; I understand why his fans love to watch him play. In fact even those who would not label themselves "fans" of Federer are still captivated by his game. He is an awesome talent and one of the best tennis players in modern history.
All this being said, he is a human being. He is not a deity. He is not an elevated human being, he has not an ascended master, and he can't cure cancer, solve world hunger, or magically clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. If you are a person who chooses to believe that Roger is a great person on top of being a great tennis player, then great! By all means form your own opinion. But do not attempt to bully others into sharing your thinking. We are not communists ...
