Recap Ramos-Vinolas looked shaky in the return game during his first set of the Istanbul Open, winning just 15 percent of points on Mannarino's first serve and allowing the Frenchman far too much time to step into the court.
In the rallies, the favourite had the advantage, but Mannarino did a fine job avoiding lengthy back-and-forths. He faced a lot of pressure on his second serve and had to defend no less than nine break points, giving up two breaks and the opening set.
Ramos-Vinolas showed his class in the second set, grabbing two quick breaks, as he started finding the range on his returns. Aiming for Mannarino's legs, he forced his opponent to set up behind the baseline, and in the rallies, he easily got the upper hand.
Qualifier Adrian Ungur caused the biggest shock of the day, cruising to an easy 6-3, 6-3 win over Filip Krajinovic. Ungur dominated his opponent in the return game, taking over 50 percent of the points on Krajinovic’s first serve and breaking six times.
Ungur will meet second-seeded Dimitrov in the next round. The Bulgarian made the semi-finals of the tournament last year before losing to Pablo Cuevas in shocking fashion, but he’s expected to do better against...
