While Roger Federer has made his long trip to Shanghai count, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are still alive, and are more than capable of upending the Swiss. Juan Monaco is the surprise player of the week, benefiting from the early departure of Rafael Nadal, while defeating his conqueror, Jurgen Melzer, in the very next round.
Although this weekend's winner won't take home a Slam title or the No. 1 ranking in the world, pride, and bragging will continue to reign supreme.
With the four competitors ready for action, let's now take a look at a preview of semifinal Saturday.
Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer
Federer leads the pair's head-to-head series 10-6.
This match up will feature a lot on the line for Federer. He lost a nail-biter to Djokovic at the US Open, and there's no way that two losses in a row will go unnoticed. Federer has appeared fit and fresh in Shanghai this week, losing his serve once during three matches, while striking 16 aces.
The Swiss' stadium rising performance against No. 5 seed Robin Soderling was perhaps his best performance of the year, dropping two games in total to the French Open finalist. While Federer continues to build his game for next season, his coach Paul Annacone has been on hand to observe any tweaking that needs to take place before the Australian Open.
Djokovic, who has recently returned to his calm, talented self, appears grooved in his serve motion, while continuing to pummel his forehand.
