Serena Williams Shows Why She’s Still the Best Player in the World

Throw out the rankings. They say that she's the No. 9 player in the world, but there's no question when her heart and soul are into it she's the best.
On Friday, she once again dominated Maria Sharapova, 6-1, 6-3, in the Madrid Open quarterfinals. The tournament is clearly hers to lose. She served 11 aces and dominated play from the baseline against an intimidated Sharapova.
Serena has now won nine straight matches on clay, her weakest surface, and if she continues to play like she has been the rest of the tour is in big trouble. To me there's no question that she's the favorite to win the French Open. She's only won it once in her career, and you know she'd like to add another one to her resume.
Her serve is the key. She's been serving double-digit aces during the clay-court season, not an easy thing to do. The reality is her serve is the best serve of all-time and when it's on no one can handle it.
If Serena continues to give her heart and soul to the game this could be the year of Serena.
She's just bigger, faster and stronger than everyone else. And if she stays committed to the game, she could still dominate for years to come.
Forget her age. At 30, she's still way better than everyone else. The problem for Serena is that she doesn't stay focused and play enough to reach the top and dominate and I don't actually think that will change. However, can you imagine what she could do if she played a lot of tournaments year-round and stayed committed to being the best?
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a Serena fan. But I respect her and her game. In my opinion, Serena is the most talented player to ever play the game. Injuries and lack of commitment will keep her from winning the most slam titles of all-time, and that's a shame. Still, as Serena enters what should be the last years...
