Rogers Cup 2012: Caroline Wozniacki’s Easy Road Will End in Championship

With No. 12 Dominika Cibulkova and No. 13 Jelena Jankovic both suffering upsets, there is no other ranked woman left in her portion of the bracket. Now she simply needs to beat Varvara Lepchenko and either Christina McHale or Aleksandra Wozniak in the quarterfinals to win her portion of the bracket.
After that, she will be in the semifinals, where the competition is sure to heat up.
No. 5 Petra Kvitova advanced to the quarters in straight sets, and she looks to be Wozniacki's main competition. She is looking good right now, but Wozniacki can beat her.
After a strong showing against Kiki Bertens, in which the No. 7 player in the world didn't drop a set, Wozniacki looks to build momentum over these next two matches.
While she only won the first set 7-5 because her serve wasn't working well, she broke her opponent three times in order to win the set. After starting slowly, she jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and ended up clinching it 7-5, 6-1.
Her great improvement over the course of the match tells me that she came out slowly because she was anxious, but has now settled in. If she stays locked in, she'll be tough to beat.
She doesn't have much chance of losing until the semis. The likely scenario is that she continues to win by a huge margin and builds up a head of steam heading into her match with Kvitova.
Wozniacki's been helped along by the fact that Serena Williams is not in the field and stars like Samantha Stosur and Victoria Azarenka have gone down. I'm not sure that she could have beaten any of those three, but she's well-suited to beat Kvitova if she has a good game and a bit of luck.
This easy path almost automatically puts her deep in the tournament, and once she builds up her confidence, she's tough to beat.
