Roger Federer: Why Pulling out of Paris Masters Is Smart Move for Tennis Star

Federer was the defending champion of the Paris Masters—which started Monday—but decided to give his body a rest before the World Finals.
While some experts may question the short notice of the withdrawal, the speculation that pulling out is a sign Federer may be experiencing some pain or is less than 100 percent is not valid. This tour veteran knows exactly what he is doing.
Federer told the AP via USA Today about his decision and when he made the choice to pull out of the Paris Masters:
It's the only right decision for me. I had some niggling stuff and I didn't want to take a chance obviously before the World Tour Finals. I need some time to prepare…I had one of the best weeks of my life last year. The fans were amazing, and the last thing I want to do is mislead any fans. This is really just a last-minute decision.
Federer knows how many dates the tour has on the schedule and he knows which events he can't miss.
While the Paris Masters is an event the 30-year-old star would have attended a year ago, Federer knows his body is beginning to slow down and needs to recharge his batteries before the ATP Finals.
Skipping the Paris Masters shows exactly what Federer’s plans are, though: The tennis legend is looking to win in London and close 2012 off on a great note.
Tennis is a sport built on momentum, and a win at the ATP World Tour Finals would be more important than two subpar finishes at the Paris Masters and in London.
Pulling out this week was a no-brainer.
