Nadal to Play in Rio Games Tuesday, August 2 Nadal announced he will participate in singles and doubles play at the Rio Olympics, per ITF Olympic Tennis.
Nadal Comments on Condition of Wrist Tuesday, August 2 "The situation is not ideal, I still have wrist issues but I will play as most as possible as the MRI says it's OK. I have the blessing of my doctor," Nadal said, per Gatto Luigi of tennisworldusa.org. "We are here and the practices have gone more or less well. I don't know if there are risks for my wrist, there is always a little bit of fear but it's not getting worse."
Nadal Dealing With Inconsistent Success This Season Nadal, 30, has had an up-and-down season. He's won two singles titles but missed Wimbledon because of injury, lost in the first round of the Australian Open and withdrew before the third round of the French Open, a tournament he has dominated to historic lengths in his career.
Nonetheless, he is scheduled to be Spain's flag-bearer in the opening ceremony.
He skipped the 2012 London Olympics because of injury, but he won gold at the 2008 Games in Beijing.
The men's tournament is already without a slew of top players, including Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, John Isner, Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic, Feliciano Lopez and Kevin Anderson, so having Nadal in the competition will be a major boost.
He certainly won't be favored, however. Novak Djokovic will be expected to win the title, given his dominance over the sport in recent years, while Andy Murray will be a contender as well following his triumph at Wimbledon.
