Rafael Nadal Injury Update: Tennis Star Will Not Play at Wimbledon 2016

Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times passed along details about the decision. The announcement noted Nadal's left wrist will remain "immobilized for a maximum of two weeks." He will then begin a process of anti-inflammatory rehabilitation.
Nadal posted a message on Facebook about needing more time to recover:
I'm sad to announce that after talking to my doctors, and receiving the results of my last medical revision, I won't be able to play at Wimbledon this year.
As you can all imagine, it's a very tough decision, but the injury I suffered at Roland Garros needs time to heal. Unfortunately, I won't be able to join in the pre-tournament event #TheBoodles at #StokePark that I attended in previous years.
The 30-year-old Spaniard has been no stranger to injuries in recent years. His hard-nosed, relentless style of play over a 14-year pro career has taken a toll on his body, leading to constant concerns regarding his wrist and knees.
He pulled out of the French Open, a Grand Slam event he's won a record-setting nine times, before the third round due to this latest wrist problem. He admitted "every day it was a little bit worse," which forced him to stop before it became an even bigger issue, per Nick McCarvel of USA Today.
In March, he retired during the middle of a match for the first time in six years at the Miami Open because he started to get dizzy in the heat, according to ESPN.com.
Looking ahead, a busy summer schedule is on tap in the world of tennis. After Wimbledon, which kicks off June 27, there's the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, starting Aug. 5 and the season's final major, the U.S. Open, beginning Aug. 29.
