Olympics Tennis 2012: Andy Murray Obliterates Roger Federer for the Gold Medal

Federer lost the first set in the Wimbledon final, 4-6, but came back to win the next three sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4, for his seventh Wimbledon title.
Murray battled, but the stoic Swiss glided around the court firing winners and displaying the cool technical precision for which he is famous.
It was a huge loss for Murray—a native of Scotland, which is a part of Great Britain.
Murray erased that disappointment today as he crushed Federer 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4 on that very same Centre Court at Wimbledon.
Federer was never a factor in the Olympic final as Murray was clearly the aggressor and took the match to Federer.
The Swiss appeared to be a step slow and pressing at times to match Murray’s ferocious power and speed.
For a native of Great Britain to win on the biggest stage in the Olympics at hallowed Wimbledon in such a decisive manner was a huge victory for the Scot.
Murray admitted in a post-match interview with NBC’s John McEnroe that his experience handling the pressure in the 2012 Wimbledon final helped him stay relaxed and focused in this Olympic final.
To overwhelmingly beat a tennis legend such as Roger Federer and collect an Olympic gold medal is pretty heady stuff.
Murray has experienced some major disappointments in the past and this win should provide more confidence in future Grand Slam events.
Murray has just thrust himself into the role as one of the top candidates to win the U.S. Open, which begins August 27.
