Djokovic handled Edmund 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.
Stuart Fraser of the Daily Mail said it took on the "feel of a first-round match" as the world's No. 1 player advanced in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The talent disparity was clear, especially in the first-serve department. According to the U.S. Open's official website, Djokovic won 75 percent of his first-serve points, compared to 53 percent for Edmund. That difference helped the victor overcome seven double-faults.
ESPN Tennis noted it was business as usual for Djokovic in the round of 16:
Djokovic wasted little time establishing himself as the clear favorite as he earned multiple early breaks to seize a 6-2 win in the first set. The 29-year-old notched two aces in the opening set and won 14 of 16 points on his first serve.

It was more of the same in the second set, as the Serbian star won the first four games behind two breaks. Edmund got on the board by holding serve in the fifth and pushed Djokovic to deuce in the next game, but the 12-time major champion prevailed and won the second set 6-1.
