Murray earned a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory. He came out hard and aggressive in Montreal with his bullet-like serve and an aggressive backhand, and that allowed him to take the first set. However, when Djokovic rebounded and took the second set, it seemed like the eight-match losing streak would grow to nine.
Murray would have none of it. He jumped out to a 3-0 third-set lead and won an epic game to take a 4-1 lead in the final set. Djokovic forced the issue frequently and had nine break points in the final set, but Murray fought off each of them.
Murray finally closed out opponent with his relentless serve to earn his first victory over Djokovic since the 2013 Wimbledon Final.
