Before the clouds and dangerous weather started rolling in, Ferrer had a firm grip on this match as he had a commanding lead in the first set, 5-2.
While that hot start for Ferrer certainly didn't ensure ultimate victory, it was about as good a start any tennis player could hope for, especially against the No. 2 player in the world. Ferrer looked faster, stronger and more determined than his counterpart early in the match.
Djokovic's slow start could be attributed to a lack of rest throughout this tourney. Had he completed his match with Ferrer, it would have been his third match in only four days. His opponent, Ferrer, had slightly more rest having played the same amount of matches as Djokovic in five days.
One day might not seem like a lot, but nearing the end of a long season when progressive fatigue begins setting in, it is. A single day can make all the difference in the world when resting minor injuries, as well.
Getting the extra day for Djokovic will give him more time to get his tired legs some needed rest. Instead of only one day of rest between his quarterfinal and semifinal matches, Djokovic will now have almost two full days.
Momentum is also a huge factor in tennis and it's safe to say that Ferrer had it all in the first set. Jumping out to a lead like that left Ferrer believing he could knock off Djokovic, if he didn't believe that already.
Now that momentum has been put on ice until Sunday and that could effectively kill this distinct advantage for Ferrer.
