Novak Djokovic Injury: Updates on Tennis Star’s Wrist and Return

Djokovic Comments on Wrist Ailment Wednesday, Aug. 10 According to Shannon Russell of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Djoker is dealing with an injury to his left wrist. The Serb had this to say about his decision to pull out of the only ATP Masters 1000 tournament he has never won:
I am very sad to announce that I won't be able to play this year in Cincinnati at the Western & Southern Open. I have a recurring injury that has taken its toll on my body due to a very busy and active schedule this year. I have played many matches and I have to take some rest in order to heal. I always have my hopes high on returning to Cincinnati and winning the only trophy I am missing in the Masters Series.
Djokovic has had some nagging injuries crop up dating back to last season. He's discussed his battle with chronic arm problems, but they didn't seem to hamper him as he won the first two Grand Slams of 2016.
Nole's play has clearly dropped off as of late, though, as he was eliminated by Sam Querrey in the third round at Wimbledon and lost to Juan Martin del Potro at the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
If he has to miss a lot of time because of this injury, there suddenly becomes a void at the top of the tennis standings that everyone will be happy to attack. His presence instantly makes him an overwhelming favorite, so this is a good opportunity for everyone else to capitalize.
Andy Murray is the obvious candidate coming off his Wimbledon title, but if Djokovic can heal up and get back in time for the U.S. Open, he still has a chance to end his season on a high note despite a recent rough patch.
