Nadal and Davydenko Reach Finals in Qatar; Roddick on Course in Brisbane

Day five action in Doha provided mixed fortunes for the world's top two ranked players. No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal wasted little time in blowing past Serbian Viktor Troicki, 6-1, 6-3, while top seeded Roger Fedeer suffered his second straight loss to Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 6-4, 6-4.
Nadal's renewed confidence was once again highlighted against Troicki on Friday.
Using pinpoint serving to offset Troicki, Nadal raced to a first set lead after losing just one point on his first serve. By contrast, Troicki was atrocious on his first serve throughout the first set, winning only 39 percent of the points.
Nadal did encounter a minor hiccup after winning 11 straight games, losing three consecutive games at 5-0 in the second set.
Regardless of his inability to closed out Troicki earlier, Nadal needed an efficient 67 minutes to progress to the finals.
The Spaniard now has the opportunity to end an eight month title drought on Saturday. The Mallorcan last won a Tour level title at the Roma Masters 1000 in May, defeating Novak Djokovic.
Nadal told reporters after his win that his court movement (the catalyst to his game) appears to have recovered.
“I will try to play like this again tomorrow,” Nadal said. “I am moving really well now.”
Reaching the finals after two previous quarterfinal defeats, Nadal will face the in-form efforts of Davydenko in the championship match.
Playing simply brilliant tennis in his second straight win over Federer, Davydenko used his intense brand of off-the-rise tennis to keep the top seed pinned on the baseline.
After racing to a 3-0, double break lead in the first set, Davydenko served out the set in the 10th game by hitting an overhead smash.
