Marcos Baghdatis’ Weight Loss and Andy Roddick’s Fitness Plan For 2011

(December 27,2010) As a very common way to start off the New Year, many people take it upon themselves to make a resolution to get fit. Mardy Fish transformed his body and game last year for a successful season. It seems that Marcos Baghdatis and Andy Roddick, in a similar fashion, are resolved to start off 2011 right.
Marcos Baghdatis has reportedly lost approximately 10 pounds since he started rigorous training on November 14, which is about two weeks from when he suffered a shoulder injury that made him pull out of the Paris Masters.
Baghdatis' trainer, Andreas Nicolaou, told the ATP that, "He was 86 kg, 14.8 percent body fat. Now he’s 82.3 kg and 10 percent body fat, which is a really good number. The main thing is to be stable and stay on that number of 10 percent body fat. The development plan is to decrease the fat and increase the muscle mass, so Marcos will be more powerful and more agile and quicker.”
Converting those kilograms over to pounds, Baghdatis was about 189.6 lbs. and is now 181.4 lbs. He did more than play tennis to get in shape aerobically that includes playing soccer, swimming, mountain biking, weight training, jogging, and high altitude training in the Troodos mountains of Cyprus. Diet-wise, he traded fatty and fried foods for steamed or grilled options in healthy portions and began drinking more water.
In 2010, the 25-year-old Cyprus native began the season successfully beating Viktor Troicki, Lleyton Hewitt, Mardy Fish, and Richard Gasquet to win his fourth career title in Sydney. Baghdatis beat Roger Federer for the first time at Indian Wells, reached semifinals in Munich and Cincinnati, and was runner-up to David Nalbandian in Washington, DC and to Troicki in Moscow.
