Juan Martin del Potro Injury: Updates on Tennis Star’s Wrist and Recovery

Unfortunately, that great play will have to be put on hold for at least this season, as the Argentine will have to undergo surgery for a left wrist injury that forced him to pull out of the Sony Open earlier this week.
La Nacion reported the news Saturday afternoon (via Reuters), along with a quote from del Potro on the devastating season-ending injury:
I have the experience of how the rehabilitation is, the time it takes. ... This time, a good thing is I won't lose so much time seeking a diagnosis. In 2010, it took me two to three months to find the right diagnosis and the right doctor. This time, luckily, I know.
The 2010 reference from del Potro is, of course, about his previous injury to the right wrist that hampered him throughout the season before he dealt with it in May of that year.
American surgeon Richard Berger, the wrist specialist who performed surgery on del Potro's right wrist in 2010, will operate on the 25-year-old tennis star, according to La Nacion's report.
Before del Potro ultimately decided to resort to having the surgery, Stuart Fraser of The Daily Mail gave his thoughts on the Argentine player:
At just 25 years old, del Potro still has the makings of a huge career ahead of him following his surgery. But with the second procedure taking place in a matter of four years, there is no way to know how he will play when he eventually returns.
With other players, like Stanislas Wawrinka, emerging early in the season, the tennis world is surely shaken up with the loss of the 2009 U.S. Open champion. As more updates come through about del Potro's health and recovery, they will be added to this story.
