Both winners came back from losing the first set. Dokic started the tournament strong when she defeated No. 1 seed Francesca Schiavone while her final opponent, Safarova, defeated No. 2 seed Marion Bartoli.
Dokic said joyfully, "I don't know where I pulled it out from today but I did. I even surprised myself...and when you start winning matches and titles, your appetite only gets bigger."
In Kuala Lumpur, former World No. 1 Dinara Safina found success in playing wild-card doubles and won the title with partner Galina Voskoboeva, 7-5, 2-6, 10-5, against Noppawan Lertcheewarkarn and Jessica Moore.
Potentially back to her old form, Safina said, "I'm kind of on the way back because I was injured all last year. I'm trying to play as many matches as I can, singles and doubles. So I'm pretty happy with this week—it had been a long time since I last played doubles, too."
Seeded No. 1, Jankovic was favored to win against No. 2 seed and defending champion Pavlyunchenkova, but lost momentum in Mexico.
