Both Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova suffered defeats in the third round on Monday in California, ensuring that the 2014 Indian Wells will see new winners on each side.
The men's World No. 1 fell at the hands of Alexandr Dolgopolov in three back-and-forth sets, marking the Spaniard's first defeat on North American soil in nearly two years.
