Gerry Weber Open 2013: Roger Federer Will Route Mikhail Youzhny in Final

Federer, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, defeated Tommy Haas, who beat him in last year’s final, on Saturday in the semifinals by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The ATP World Tour No. 3 player will face off against Mikhail Youzhny in Sunday’s final. There in Halle, Germany, Federer will coast to a victory.
Youzhny isn’t a scrub by any means. He’s ranked the 29th-best player on the planet by the ATP World Tour. However, don’t be fooled by his respectable reputation into thinking that he has the slightest chance to upset Federer.
The Swiss star is 31 years old. He’s coming off a disappointing exit in the 2013 French Open. However, that won’t stop him from embarrassing Youzhny again, though.
Federer has faced off against Youzhny 15 times dating back to the year 2000. The 30-year-old Russian fell to Federer each and every time. Only twice has Youzhny even managed to win a single set against him, and those came way back in 2000 and 2003.
The last time they went head-to-head was the 2012 Wimbledon quarterfinals. Federer not only won in straight sets, but Youzhny only mustered up five points in the entire match.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion went on to win last year’s Wimbledon. On the Gerry Weber Open grass, the reigning champ is just warming up to defend his crown when this year’s Wimbledon comes around on June 24.
If Federer were to lose, it would be a catastrophic upset. It would be such a crushing defeat for him that it would be difficult to imagine him outplaying Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray to win another Grand Slam title the rest of his career.
But he won’t lose.
