Per ATPWorldTour.com, the Augsburg-born Kohlschreiber recorded his 386th tour-level victory in his homeland to lift himself into third in the overall rankings for most wins by a German in the Open Era.
He was forced to take it to three sets to secure progression into the second round of the tournament after Berlocq won the second set by a five-point margin in a tiebreak.
However, the German's baseline prowess proved too much for his opponent after comfortably breaking his Argentinian rival twice in the final stages of the contest.
Kohlschreiber is eager to add to his one title in 2016 in Hamburg, and he has been drawn against Argentina's Nicolas Kicker in the next round.
