There have been upsets and incredible performances that have kept fans’ eyes glued to the clay courts in Paris.
Here are the four most shocking results from the 2012 French Open.
Paul-Henri Mathieu defeats John Isner
This contest delivered fans an early-round upset and a five-and-a-half hours long thriller of a match.
Mathieu was unseeded, but he outlasted No. 10 Isner in a fifth set that took 34 games to determine a victor.
This was the second time in recent years that Isner, known as the Marathon Man, locked himself in an epic battle. At Wimbeldon in 2010, he beat Nicolas Mahut in the longest match in tennis history.
Isner really should have done better against Mathieu, but this grueling match showed the true grit of both players involved. This was a thrilling result that captivated fans in Paris.
Virginie Razzano defeats Serena Williams
Heading into the French Open, Serena Williams had never lost an opening round match in a major tournament.
Absolutely no one could have predicted that the tournament's No. 5 seed, who has 13 career Grand Slam victories, would be defeated in her opening match by an unseeded opponent.
Nine times in the match, Williams was within two points of victory, as noted by FoxNews.com. This was a rare sports moment when those watching the match could not believe what was happening in front of their eyes.
There was no upset more shocking throughout the entire tournament.
