French Open Quarters: ‘Say It Ain’t So!’ Roger Federer Ousted at Roland Garros

It was not an easy day for Federer fans around the globe, but is was an excellent time for French fans, who witnessed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga finally advance to the French Open semifinals after last year's disappointing quarterfinal loss to Novak Djokovic.
This will mark the first French Open semifinal appearance in Tsonga's career.
French patriots have not seen a Frenchman take the title since Yannick Noah in 1983, defeating teenage Swede Mats Wilander in the final.
This might well be their year to celebrate in Paris for the first time in 30 years.
It did not look like the beatdown it proved to be for the Swiss maestro, as he began by breaking Tsonga early in the first set.
Tsonga, however, would find his game and storm back, breaking Federer initially to get back on serve and then to seize the first set 7-5.
The second set saw Federer continue to falter, falling victim to the windy conditions as well as Tsonga's seemingly perfect game. Federer fell 6-3 in the second set.
In the fourth round, Federer had to go the distance with Tsonga's countryman, Gilles Simon, playing five sets on Sunday. He seemed weary as the match progressed.
In the third set Tsonga broke immediately, but Federer broke right back. The two remained on serve until the seventh game, when Tsonga broke Federer again to go up 4-3.
Tsonga was simply overpowering Federer, just as he'd done during the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2011.
Breaking Federer for the second time in the set, Tsonga closed the match out winning his quarterfinal match against the perhaps the greatest man ever to play the game.
Tsonga will face Spaniard David Ferrer in the semifinals, with one these gentlemen playing in their first ever French Open final on Sunday.
