Nonetheless, several big names managed to finish their matches on Sunday. Below, we'll take a look back at the completed matches from Day 1 at Roland Garros.
Men's Results
Both of the top men in play on Sunday, No. 17 Nick Kyrgios and No. 19 Benoit Paire, survived tough bouts to advance to the second round.
Kyrgios' match was marked by some controversy, as the fiery Australian got into a dispute with chair umpire Carlos Ramos, who took exception to Kyrgios loudly demanding a towel from one of the ballboys. Kyrgios argued with Ramos after being issued a code violation, though he settled down to defeat Marco Cecchinato.
Kyrgios addressed the situation after the match, per CNN.com:
For me that time I didn't get mad at all. I just said it a little bit loud. The crowd was going on. I just felt like it was a bit rough. It's not an easy job out there, especially five-set matches, to concentrate, I think they do a good job. I think with someone like me that's pretty emotional it can frustrate me a little bit, but I felt like I dealt with it pretty well.
The Australian needed two 8-6 tiebreaker wins in his first two sets before earning a 6-4 win in the third set to get past Cecchinato. He smashed 16 aces and wasn't broken once.

Paire, meanwhile, needed all five sets to get past Radu Albot, smashing nine aces and winning 23 of his 34 net points. He also ripped 65 winners to just 16 for Albot.
