Currently in progress, No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal is up 4-1 against Eduardo Schwank. The ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki just started play against No. 26 Kanepi on Court Suzanne Lenglen. On Court 1, Paul Henri-Mathieu is taking on Marcel Granollers of Spain. No. 13 Juan Monaco of Argentina is pitted against Milos Raonic, the No. 19 seed from Canada.
Later on today, No. 25 Julia Goerges will play the Netherlands's Arantxa Rus.
Some key matches have already been completed today. On the women's side, No. 4 seed Petra Kvitova moved on in three sets, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 against No. 19 Nina Bratchikova. Maria Sharapova continued her dominance, cruising by China's Shuai Peng 6-2, 6-1. Na Li of China lost her first set but came back to win the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 against the American, Christina McHale. The match of the day, however, was American Varvara Lepchenko's victory over the 2010 French Open Champion Francesca Schiavone.
In the men's draw, No. 8 seed Janko Tipsarevic surpassed France's Julien Benneteau. David Ferrer of Spain easily defeated his Russian opponent, Mikhail Youzhny 6-0, 6-2, 6-2. After dropping a close first set, No.17 Richard Gasquet beat Tommy Haas. However, the most anticipated match of the day was between No. 4 Andy Murray and the unseeded Santiago Giraldo. There were many questions surrounding Murray after his elevated back pain that has plagued him. He silenced all his non-believers by winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
