Her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sara Errani was the coronation of a magnificent run at Roland Garros that saw the Russian star take the world's top ranking and only lose one set in the entire tournament.
Impressive.
The result against Errani almost felt inevitable, with the taller and more powerful Sharapova smashing six aces and 37 winners. Sure, Errani didn't beat herself—she only committed 11 unforced errors to Sharapova's 29—but Sharapova didn't need any help winning this one.
Sharapova dominated on her service game, winning 69 percent of the points played on her first serve (25 of 36).
But this was more than just a Grand Slam title for Sharapova. She also became only the 10th woman to complete the career Grand Slam and took the top ranking in the WTA for the first time since 2008 after reaching the finals.
For Errani, the result may be disappointing but her tournament certainly wasn't. She came into the tournament as the 21st seed and a player few people were talking about.
She'll leave having reached the final with victories over top-10 players Sam Stosur and Angelique Kerber, and will find herself ranked in the top-10 next week.
Oh, and alongside partner Roberta Vinci, Errani won the women's doubles tournament as well.
Not a bad week for the diminutive Italian.
But in the end, this tournament's was Sharapova's to lose. She's now won three of her last four tournaments and made the finals in three other tournaments, including the Australian Open.
This looks to be the year Maria Sharapova reasserts herself as one of the game's true elites.
