Cincinnati Masters Finals Preview: Roger Federer vs. Mardy Fish

There's been a little bit of the old and touch of something new this week in Cincinnati.
We're all used to seeing Roger Federer fight for big titles throughout the course of the last decade, but his opponent across the net on Sunday will be a player who usually spends the last day of an event either traveling to a new venue or catching the final score on a passing television.
There was a time and place where Mardy Fish was categorized as a player who had loads of potential but wasn't willing to put forth the work required to play upper echelon tennis. Preferring a bag of chips to an afternoon practice session, Fish would come and go from high profile events but never leave his mark as a bonafide contender.
However, those days of Fish being overweight and not taking his sport seriously are all but over; the Fish of today is all about winning—and more importantly all about sacrifice.
Adding a star-studded list of upsets to his resume this week, Fish will have his greatest challenge ahead in the finals.
Federer has essentially squashed any thoughts that his ability to win titles is in jeopardy. Although he has slowed down in every facet of his game comparatively to his year's of dominance, the 16-time Grand Slam champ continues to prove that his skills on hard-courts and his wherewithal to reach the business end of events remains intact.
While Federer remains the favorite, Fish has proved that "favorites" can certainly be defeated.
