Rafael Nadal is another big name in attendance at this tournament and he overcame wild card Wu Di in his tournament opener. In what’s becoming an increasingly intriguing women’s draw, there were wins for the highest remaining seed, Flavia Pennetta, as well as Caroline Wozniacki.

Djokovic, Nadal Up and Running
In his first outing since a triumphant display at the US Open, Djokovic was a confident winner against Bolelli, who has been in decent form himself as of late.
The imposing Serb took the match 6-1, 6-1, showcasing the kind of durability, power and accuracy that have earned him three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2015. Now it seems as though Djokovic is intent on building momentum ahead of the ATP Tour Finals in London, another title he is looking to defend.

After a disappointing exit early on at Flushing Meadows, Nadal will be hoping to end what has been an underwhelming year on a high. This clash with Wu was a match he was always the big favourite to win, but with the Beijing crowd backing their countryman, it could have been a potential banana skin for the 14-time Grand Slam champion.
Encouragingly for Nadal, he came through this one with confidence, showing both quality and determination against the world No. 230 in a 6-4, 6-4 win. Still, there are areas of the Spaniard's game that look a little out of sorts, most notably his serve, which was poor throughout the match.
