Australian Open 2013: Updated Betting Lines for Men’s Singles Winner

Now that handicappers have taken a look at the top players in the draw and have seen how they are playing—and how they are adjusting to the sweltering heat—there has been some movement on the odds for the tournament's top players. Novak Djokovic is unsurprisingly still the overwhelming favorite to defend his title, with Andy Murray and Roger Federer not too far behind. After the three competing members of the Big Four, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych are each given a decent chance to stage an upset at Melbourne.
The men's game has become notoriously top-heavy in recent years, with the Big Four of Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Murray not only winning 30 of the last 31 Grand Slams, but also 23 of the last 25 Masters tournaments. With Nadal's nagging health concerns and Federer's advancing age, some believe that for the first time in years, the opportunity exists for someone outside of the Big Four to win a Grand Slam, and that the Australian Open is the most likely opportunity for a new champion to be crowned.
