ATP Montreal 2011 Friday Results: Novak Djokovic Whips Gael Monfils

The final four vying for the Rogers Cup in Montreal will include the world's number one player, the only repeat semifinalist from last season, as Novak Djokovic destroyed Gael Monfils in the quarters today (Aug. 12) in straight sets.
The match was not competitive as Djokovic ran away with the win 6-2, 6-1.
Djokovic will now face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a rematch of one of the Wimbledon semifinals from just over a month ago. Tsonga himself was a straight sets winner on Friday (Aug. 12) as he eliminated clay court expert Nicolas Almagro in straight sets, the fifth time the Frenchman has defeated the Spaniard in their careers.
The other men's semifinal from Montreal will feature sixth-seeded Mardy Fish, as the American looks to make another Masters Series 1000 final. Fish defeated Stanislas Wawrinka on Friday in a three-set match and will now face Janko Tipsarevic as the Serb, who is unseeded in Montreal, defeated Tomas Berdych in their semifinal match.
The Tsonga vs. Djokovic tilt looks to be the match that holds the most intrigue. Tsonga might be the only player remaining in the Montreal draw who has a realistic chance of beating Djokovic as neither Fish nor Tipsarevic look strong enough to do it in the championship final.
However, Tsonga will likely have to play with more energy on Saturday than he did on Friday as Tsonga did not appear to be at his absolute best when playing Almagro, despite the victory.
All things considered, the complexion of ATP Montreal certainly looks as though it is Djokovic's tournament for the taking as the world's number one netter looks to consolidate his position on top of the ATP rankings with another hard court Masters Series 1000 title.
