Great Britain's most promising tennis medal hope cruised to a straight-sets win over Serbia's Troicki and will next face Argentinian Juan Monaco in the second round.
After a stuttered start in Barra da Tijuca, Murray found his feet and hit back with vengeance, failing to surrender a single break after his initially nervy beginning.
Fellow Briton Kyle Edmund also booked a place in the second round after he defeated Australia's Jordan Thompson, and British Tennis made sure to celebrate their greatest star's triumph:
Per the Guardian's Kevin Mitchell, Murray conceded after the result that his slow start may have been due to a not being out on the court much in recent weeks:
I was a bit nervous at the start having not played for a few weeks. and it was my first match on hard courts for a while and in tricky windy conditions. But I did pretty well. It was a good start.
It was important to [keep the momentum going] – not so much thinking about that as trying to win an Olympic medal. That’s what adds to the pressure a bit.
Of course, for any Olympian, what happens in sport is the chief concern, but even Murray has found time to take delight in what Brazil has to offer.
The 29-year-old opened up on his experience of the country thus far, as well as telling what it was like to stand as flag-bearer for his country:
I’ve enjoyed Rio a lot. Being around the Great Britain athletes, being around chatting, supporting… I’ve enjoyed it. The flag bearing was amazing. Walking out into the stadium was an incredible feeling. I was proud to lead the British team out.
