They went down to the Australian Sevens side 21–12 after going down to the Samoans earlier in the day in the Cup quarterfinals. The Eagles looked lively at the start of the game despite letting the Australians score early in the game.
A great solo display of strength by captain Kevin Swiryn saw him power over the line to lead the game early. A lack of concentration and some silly mistakes allowed the Australians back, and finally dominated the game and see the Americans out of the tournament.
Australia were at the losing end of a great cup quarter final, which saw them up against old enemies England. England started the game with the intent to let Christian Wade do most of the running. The fist phase of play saw Wade streak past the Australian defense to score.
He caused trouble all game long, but it was the constant pressure and harassment of the Australians which saw they launch a scoring attack. It went back and forth, and it looked England’s game when Wade once again sliced through the middle to score, and lead 19–12. The Aussies came back to tie the game, but it was a last minute try from Powell at the death that sealed the game for England.
And so an interesting and hard menu of Cup finals in store—Samoa vs England, Fiji vs New Zealand. It's anyone’s guess, but I would put my money on an England vs Fiji final...I might be wrong!
