Will Luis Suarez’s Injury Derail His and Uruguay’s Copa America Bid?

Approaching the hour mark in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey final clash with Sevilla at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid, Suarez stretched out his right leg to control a ball and, in doing so, injured his hamstring. He was already upset when he hobbled off, with Andres Iniesta consoling him, and that evolved into full-blown tears when slumped on the bench.
Suarez pulled his shirt up over his face so the world could not see his tears.
Perhaps they flowed because he now wasn't able to help his Barcelona team-mates in their quest to complete their double, but more likely it was because of the implications it will have on Uruguay's bid to lift the Copa America.
After scoring 59 goals in all competitions this season, Suarez is without doubt the most in-form player in the world. He won the European Golden Shoe and La Liga's Pichichi award as top goalscorer. This should have been his summer. It could still be.
Suarez will not relent on his recovery mission. He made that clear before the 2014 World Cup when he did everything he could to get fit for the tournament.
