Victor Manuel Vucetich in Tough Position at Mexico

Vucetich has the qualifications to take over at Mexico, but he's in an almost impossible situation.
First and foremost, Mexico is currently in a battle with Panama for the fourth and final World Cup qualifying spot in the CONCACAF Hexagonal. Both sides have eight points. That, in itself, screams "pressure."
Add the fact that Mexico's fans basically expect the side to qualify for the 2014 World Cup (as they should) and, well, safe to say, Vucetich will feel like the entire country is on his shoulders in El Tri's two remaining qualifying matches.
For the 58-year-old—who was just fired from Monterrey of the Primera Division de Mexico—this isn't exactly the ideal situation to be thrust into.
Vucetich has the credentials to lead the Mexican national team. In his first season as manager of Monterrey in 2009, he led the club to its first ever Liga MX Apertura title. Then he did it again in 2010. Then he captured the CONCACAF Champions League trophy in 2011...before doing it again in the next two seasons.
But, in the football world of what-have-you-done-for-me-lately, Vucetich was ousted from Monterrey after finishing seventh in the 2012 Apertura, ninth in the 2013 Clausura and then winning just once in the club's first seven matches in the Apertura this year.
But, make no mistake about it, Vucetich is a capable manager—capable enough to be the boss of Mexico. He's shown in the past that he can lead a quick turnaround and a change of scenery may be just what he needs at this point.
So, this is undoubtedly a great opportunity for Vucetich. There's no question about that.
